May 27:

After a bit of a dry spell, I’m happy to report two new sales, one to Tales of the Unanticipated (a near future tale that one of TOTU’s readers called “edgy science fiction with a real sense of style”), and the other to Ruthless Peoples (a fun fantasy piece about a naughty little girl).

“Myths and Messerschmitts” will most likely be appearing in the August/September 2010 issue of TOTU, although there is a chance it could make it into the September 09 issue (fingers crossed). “Krissy and the Gingerbread Man” is tentatively slated for July 09.

Welcome to the website of Canadian writer and artist Kurt Kirchmeier. I hope you enjoy your visit.

May 19:

A bit of art news to share. I found out late last week that the wonderfully quirky print magazine Kaleidotrope will be using an art piece I did a few months back called “Persistence” for the cover of their October 09 issue. There’s also a chance that the image will be featured in an Alameda CA newspaper, this thanks to one of the other contributors to the issue, who is apparently going to be featured in an article. I’ve never been in a newspaper before, so that would be cool. I’ve had three stories appear in Kaleidotrope’s pages now, including an apocalyptic SF piece in the most recent issue, available here, but this will be the first time my art’s been featured there.

I’m also hoping to update the gallery with a number of new images within the next few weeks, so do check back!

March 12:

Two pieces of news to report today.

1) The gallery has been updated to nine images, the two newest ones being “Sovereign” and “Sentinel.” I’m still thinking the “Dark Forest” series will close with twelve, but we’ll see. I’m also thinking now about what will come after. I like the thought of doing another series, but I haven’t come up with a theme yet that really grabs me.

2) My short story “Moral Debt” is now live in the online edition of Aoife’s Kiss. Click here. I hope you’ll stop by and give it a read. This story was an attempt to put an original spin on an old trope: dragons.

February 27:

My new site design is complete! It took the better part of a day, but it’s all done. I had only planned on getting the gallery up and running, but after I accomplished that, I decided just to overhaul the whole works. There are only nine images in the gallery so far, but I hope you will stop in and have a look.

February 8:

I’m happy to report that my short story “Souls on Display” will be appearing in Triangulation: Dark Glass later this year. The story is a reprint, but it’s one of my personal favorites, so I’m stoked to get it some more exposure, and hopefully a few reviews as well. I’m also stoked to be back in the Triangulation anthology series. I had a story in End of Time in 2007 and was disappointed at just missing the cut for last year’s Taking Flight edition.

Received word yesterday morning that my quasi-metaphorical story “Nine Days: The Stone Boy’s Lament” will be appearing in issue #5 of Polluto: The Anti-Pop Culture Journal, a print magazine published in the UK.

January 25:

Two bits of poetry news to share today.

#1 - Following a rewrite, I’ve sold my poem “Soul Traps” to Goblin Fruit. It’s slated to appear later this year (spring or summer), and I’m going to attempt to record it aloud, so stay tuned.

#2 - My quirky little poem “Acorns” is now live at Every Day Poets. Check it out if you have a spare minute. Mayhaps it’ll make you smile.

Received word yesterday that OG’s Speculative Fiction will be using my science fiction illustration “Bus Stop” as the cover image for their March issue. This is my first (and hopefully not last) art sale.

January 7, 2008

My first two publications of the new year are now out and available for purchase. First is my poem “Our Wings,” which is in the current issue (#31) of Star*Line. This is a special prose poem issue guest-edited by the talented Bruce Boston. There are twenty poems in all, from which two were given the distinction of “editor’s choice.” I’m happy to report that my poem is one of the two, and as such, is available on-line as well as in print. Hop over there and give it a read if you have a moment.

And second is my lighthearted anthropomorphic tale “Soul-Tipping,” told from the perspective of a daring hawkfish named Lurko. This one is available in the current offering (#23) of Beyond Centauri, a magazine for younger readers brought to you by the good folks over at Sam’s Dot Publishing.

Click the purchase page for order information on both titles.
